Zita I. Hohman, age 87, of Independence House, Fostoria, died at 1:15 am, Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born August 19, 1918, in Liberty Township, to the late Herman A. and Louise M. (Smith) Scherger. On January 3, 1942, in St. Andrew Catholic Church, she married Ernest J. Hohman, and he survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth E. (Martha) Hohman of Fostoria, Marvin R. (Sharon) Hohman of New Riegel, and John M. (Valerie) Hohman, of Tiffin; three daughters, Elizabeth L. “Betty Lou” (Jerome) Piotrowski of Lindenhurst, IL, Lunette R. (Michael) Frase of New Riegel, and Rosalie (Paul) Distel of Tiffin; 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Herman Scherger of Cloverdale; and a sister, Germaine Perry of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Ernest Hohman, Jr., and Gerard Joseph Hohman, four brothers, Bernard, Carl, Cyril, and Gerald Scherger, a sister, Mary Louise Huss, and two grandsons, Jamie and Jeremy Frase.
Mrs. Hohman was homemaker and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society, the Catholic Knights of Ohio, the Seneca County Farm Bureau, and the Red Hats Society. She also volunteered at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. She enjoyed crocheting and playing euchre.
A Funeral Mass will be 10 am Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, where the Rosary will be recited fifteen minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel. Friends may call Tuesday, June 13, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm, at the Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113. A combined CK of O and Parish Wake Service will be held at 8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Independence House, Fostoria Community Hospital, CK of O Vocations Fund, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
