William “Bill” Joseph Paulus, age 78 of 94 Longfellow Drive, Tiffin, Ohio , died at 3:40 P.M. in Flower Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio on Thursday, October 2, 2003. He was born on February 11, 1925 to Emil J. and Mary E. (Herrlinger) Paulus. He married Jean N. Noller on April 22, 1948 in St. Charles Catholic Church, Toledo, Ohio. She died on July 16, 1979.
Other survivors include, 7 sons, Thomas (Elizabeth) Paulus; Edward (Sue) Paulus; Leonard (Christina) Paulus; Joseph (Mary) Paulus,: and John (Robin) Paulus all of Tiffin; and Timothy (Carla) Paulus of Louisville, Kentucky; and James ( Jodi) Paulus, of Florida; 3 daughters, Virginia Garlock, Pamela Ludwig, and sue ( Mark) Ward all of Tiffin; 23 Grandchildren, and 20 Great-Grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Helen (Emil) Kirian and Mrs. Josephine (Richard) Webb both of Tiffin. Mr. Paulus is preceded by 2 brothers, John and Jim Paulus.
Mr. Paulus retired in 1977 after serving 26 years on the Tiffin Police Department. He also had worked as a custodian from 1977 to 1985 at Heidelberg College, Tiffin. Mr. Paulus had served in the United States Navy during World War II and was involved in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was wounded in the battle of Loyte Gulf in the Philippine Islands and received the Purple Heart Award. He had been stationed on the USS Swannee.
Mr. Paulus was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and served as an Eucharistic Minister for 12 years and he sang in the church choir for 41 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Tiffin, and was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Tiffin.
There will be a wake service on Sunday at 3:30 P.M. at the funeral home and the Rosary will be recited at the church 15 minutes prior to the Funeral Mass on Monday.
Burial will take place immediately following the Funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin. Contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or to a Charity of the Donor’s Choice in care of Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883. (419)-447-3113
