Wenner C. Hoffert, age 78, of Tiffin, Ohio, died January 14, 2002. He was born in Eden Twp., Seneca County, Ohio, on September 19, 1923, to William Jacob and Anna Lucretia (Stever) Hoffert. On December 2, 1944, in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Republic, Ohio, he married Monica E. Engle. She died January 11, 2002. Also surviving are 2 sons, Michael (Kay) Hoffert & John (Virginia) Hoffert; 5 daughters, Susan (Vincent) Kennedy, Rebecca (Ronald) Studer, Mary Jane (Ronald) Inkrott, Christine (Carlos) Vela, & Jennifer (Mark) Schnaible; 1 brother, Dr. Elwood (Marian) Hoffert; 1 sister, Gaetta Murray; 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A brother, Morris Hoffert,and 2 sisters, Mildred Reider and Margery Juniper, are deceased. Mr. Hoffert was a 1941 graduate of Melmore High School and served in the US Marine Corps as a tailgunner in a divebomber in the Marshall Islands of the Pacific Theater during World War II. He received 7 Distinguished Flying Crosses and 23 Air Medals while in the Service. He was a retired master machinist at National Machinery Company, working for over 44 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Quarter Century Club, VFW Post 2858, and the VSMB 331 Squadron. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine, Bellevue, Ohio.
