Walter R. Lonsway, age 81, formerly of E. Cherry Avenue, Tiffin, Ohio died at 3:30 am Monday, March 12, 2007 at St. Francis Home. He was born on December 20, 1925 in Tiffin to the late Eugene J. and Gertrude (Kuhn) Lonsway. On May 30, 1950 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married Rita J. Kuntz. She died on February 12, 1995.
Survivors include, four daughters, Sue (Paul) Gerth of Columbus, IN; Nancy (Robert) Smith of Tiffin; Pat (James) Burks, of Cumming, GA; and Janis (Kenneth) Rumschlag of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; one brother, Alton Lonsway of Tiffin.
Preceding him in death are four brothers, Richard, Robert, James and Charles Lonsway; and a grandson, Evan Smith.
Mr. Lonsway was a 1943 Calvert High School graduate. He served in the United States Navy. Walter retired in 1986 after working for 37 years as a machinist from General Electric Company.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Calvert Boosters, and he enjoyed bowling and golfing.
The funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. Richard Dunn on March 14, 2007 at 11:30am at St. Francis Home Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Tiffin. The United Veteran’s Council of Seneca County will perform military rites at the gravesite.
Visitation will be today, Tuesday, March 13, 2007 from 5-8pm at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday at St Francis Home. A Rosary service will be held at 8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Catholic Schools Education Fund, St. Francis Home, Diabetes Foundation in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
