Virginia L. Baum, 89, of Tiffin, died at 3:40 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital. She was born June 24, 1928, in Zanesville, to William H. and Edna Ruth (McKnaughten) Smith, and raised by her foster parents, Edith and Earl Williams. She married John A. Baum, April 11, 1959, in Zanesville and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Mark (Sue) Baum of Tiffin, John (Linda Nihiser) Baum of Republic; a daughter Mary (Gerard) Kimmet of New Riegel, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a sister, Edie Jean Bland of Zanesville, and a sister-in-law, Delores Baum of Loudonville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and foster parents, an infant son Keith Stephens, her first husband Richard Stephens, an infant brother, and two brothers-in-law, Bob Bland and Ed Baum.
Virginia had attended two years of college, she was retired. She had previously worked for Ohio Power and also General Electric. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
At her request, there will be no visitation.
The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Szbyka will officiate. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Zanesville. The rosary will be recited at the church 20 minutes prior to the Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Joseph Catholic Church or to F.A.C.T.
