Victor D. Huss, age 88, of Tiffin, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Oh.

He was born on June 18, 1921 to the late Anthony and Eva (Theis) Huss. On May 1, 1946 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin he married Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Scherger. She died October 29, 2005.

Other survivors include, three sons, John (Annette) Huss of New Riegel; Daniel (Maureen) Huss of Dublin, Oh.; James (Susan) Huss of Columbus, Oh.; five daughters, Angela (David) Koons, of Fostoria; Patricia (Russ) Randolph of Cincinnati; Teresa (James) Celek of Fremont; Marilyn (Raymond) Stump, Kansas, Oh.; and Beatrice (Dr. Michael) Hodovanic, of Cincinnati; 22 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren; a brother, Lucian Huss of Montoursville, Pa.; a sister, Esther Wilson of New Riegel; and a son-in-law, Thomas Margraf of New Riegel.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Margraf on Sept. 14, 2005, an infant daughter, Mary; three brothers, Marcellus, Cletus, and Francis Huss; three sisters, Celestia Tiell, Christina Bell, and Clara Burkett.

Victor was a 1939 New Riegel High School graduate where he was the class president and valedictorian. He completed OSU Agricultural School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Sergeant in Company G of the 317th Infantry. He served as an assistant squad leader in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart and European- African Middle Eastern Theater with two Bronze Battle Stars.

Victor was state president of the Catholic Knights of Ohio for 27 years and then served as Chairman of the Board. He established the Victor Huss CK of O Vocational Education Fund. He also served as President and Treasurer of Branch 52 New Riegel. He was a full time farmer and auction sales clerk, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, a bank director at New Riegel Commercial Bank, the first president and organizer of the New Riegel Band Boosters, a member of the Farm Bureau, Knights of Columbus, New Riegel American Legion, New Riegel Moose, a lifetime VFW member, All Saints Parish Choir, New Riegel, and the Holy Name Society. He called BINGO for the St. Boniface Church Festivals and the New Riegel Street Fairs. He was a charter member of The Polka Dot Band and a member of the Shilo Band (also known as the Gang Band) where he played the bass drum and cymbals.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. There will be a combined CO of F and parish wake service at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2009 at Traunero Funeral Home followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at All Saints Parish, New Riegel. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow immediately in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, New Riegel with military rites by the New Riegel American Legion.

Contributions may be made to the Victor D. Huss CK of O Vocational Education Fund and the Cathy Margraf 4-H Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
