Victor C. Smith, 88, of rural Republic, died at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
He was born May 22, 1924 in Tiffin to Ralph F. and Liona T. (Steinmetz) Smith. He married Rita Frankart, February 7, 1948 in Alvada and she died November 27, 2002.
Survivors include five sons, Michael (Mary) Smith of Palmetto, Fla., Vic (Jean) Smith Jr. of Tiffin, Gerry (Brooke) Smith of Sandy, Utah, Kevin (Roxanne) Smith of Zionsville, Ind., and Steven (Leslie) Smith of Republic; a daughter, Mary (Daniel) Reimer of Tiffin; 3 sisters, Mary Alice Bouillon of New Riegel, Theresa (Gene) Walliser of Tiffin, and Sr. Regina, OSU, Perrysburg; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert Smith, three brothers, Joseph, Herman and Paul Smith; three sisters, Irene Steinhauser, Sr. M. Bonaventure and an infant sister.
He was a 1942 Calvert High School graduate. He retired from Republic Roofing and was also a long time farmer. He was a former member of St. Aloysius Church and its Holy Name Society, Republic and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin; the Seneca County Farm Bureau, Seneca Antique Machinery Assn., and a former board member of the Republic Elevator.
Visitation for family and friends will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.
A wake service will be 1:45 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Prayers will be said at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the funeral home followed by the funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. Burial will follow immediately after in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Judes Research Hospital or to St. Francis Home in care of the funeral home.
