Thomas Francis Fate, Sr., 78, of Old Fort, died at 12:35pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at his residence.

On September 11, 1929, he was born to the late Bernard and Irene (Wagner) Fate in Tiffin. Mr. Fate married June Eileen Keim on November 24, 1949 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tiffin and she survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Thomas (Genny) Fate, Jr. of Tyler, Texas, Timothy (Cindy) Fate of Lambertville, Michigan, David (Donna) Fate of Fremont, and James (Lori) Fate of Summerville, South Carolina; three daughters, Deborah (Bob) Colson of Tiffin, Jeanne (Orest) Harkacz of Chugiak, Alaska, and Brenda (Richard) Dixon of Fremont; 19 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jo Elchert of Attica.

Preceding Mr. Fate in death were one brother, Bernard Fate, Jr. and three sisters, Catherine Nemeth, Alice Gabringer, and Della Fate.

He was a 1948 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School and worked for the A&P Grocery Store for 35 years as an employee and manager. Mr. Fate was the owner of Fate’s Carry Out & Tavern in Fremont for five years and also owned Fate’s Country Market in Old Fort until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tiffin.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tiffin with the Rev. Timothy Ferris officiating. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will be immediately following in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Traunero Funeral Home 214 S. Monroe Street Tiffin, Ohio 44883 419-447-3113. A Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home at 3:45pm Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, or to the Calvert Foundation.
