He was born July 8, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio to Wilbur and Rose C. (Boes) Nye. His mother survives in Green Springs.
Other survivors include, two brothers, Joseph (Sarah) Nye of New Washington, Daniel (Anita) Nye of Norwalk; three sisters, Mary Lonsway of Tiffin, Rose Ann (John) Fick of Westerville, and Jane (Howard) Van Horn of North Potomac, Md. many nieces and nephews, and a long-time special friend, Jessie Binder of LaSalle, Mich.
He is preceded in death by his father, a brother, James Nye, a brother-in-law, Carl Lonsway and a nephew, Howard Van Horn.
Stephen was a 1966 Green Springs High School graduate. He served in the United States Marines during Vietnam. He was a truck driver for Baker Trucking Company and he was also a farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a life member of the V.F.W. Green Springs.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. A wake service will be 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at the funeral home followed by the Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The United Veterans of Seneca County will perform military rites at the grave site.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
