Sister Bertha Goebel, age 82, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died Friday, December 8, 2006, at 10:02 p.m. in Mercy Hospital, Tiffin, Ohio. She was born November 13, 1924, in Edgerton, Ohio, to Crinus Peter and Bertha Clara (Siebenaler) Goebel.
Surviving are three sisters, Delores (William) Wilson of Oregon, Ohio; Mary (Byron) Carrier of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and Margaret Cellucci of Point Richmond, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two step-mothers Dorris Frey Goebel and Lu Brehm Goebel, and a brother Meredith.
Cousins in the congregation are Sisters Agnes and Elizabeth Jean Siebenaler.
In a written message Sister Bertha left to all of us, she stated, in reference to her own death: “I say very humbly, ‘THIS IS MY DAY OF TRIUMPH.’”
Sister Bertha served as teacher in Carey, New Washington, Fort Jennings, Willard, Toledo, and Peru, Ohio. She ministered as chaplain in Paducah, KY, and as chaplain at Toledo Hospital, Toledo. At the time of her death she was a Minister of Prayer for the congregation.
There will be no visitation. A Christian Wake Service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, December 16, 2006 in the St. Francis Convent Chapel 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:45 am officiated by Rev. Jim Basik, Burial will be in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
