Sister Zita Olsavsky, 93, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died at 9 pm, Thursday, January 13, 2005 at St. Francis Convent, Tiffin.
She was born April 18, 1911, in Lorain, Ohio to Valentine and Mary (Tomcho) Olsavsky.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-sister, Sister Angela Poprock, two sisters, Sophie Kakos and her older sister, also named Sister Zita (formerly Catherine), and three brothers, John, George and Andrew.
Sister Zita served in various ministries: caring for junior girls in Tiffin St. Francis orphanage; in housekeeping in Payne, Frenchtown, Millersville, New Cleveland and Carey; cared for the elderly at St. Francis Home in Tiffin; and as infirmary helper and in the sewing room at St. Francis Convent in Tiffin. At present she was a minister of prayer for the congregation.
Sister Zita had a great sense of humor which she shared whenever the opportunity arose. Her many jokes were often heard around the dinner table, delighting those present. Having lived at St. Francis since her childhood days in the orphanage, she had a wealth of stories which she recounted often. Even recently, she enjoyed singing a song she once sang in a program when she was a small child.
Rev. Art Newiadomski will celebrate the Mass, with burial following in St. Francis Convent cemetery.
Memorials can be made to St. Francis Convent or St. Francis Home.
