Sister Winifred Lause, age 100, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday, March 27, 2006 at St. Francis Home. She was born on September 20, 1905 to Mary (Gerschutz) and Frank Lause in Hamler, Ohio.
Sister Winifred is survived by her sister, Mrs. Matilda Gallant, Perrysburg, Ohio, and devoted nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Margaret Briner, and her brothers, Lawrence, Louis, Arthur, Albert and Aloysius.
Sister Winifred served as teacher in Ohio schools: Payne, Paulding, Miller city, fort Jennings, Carey, Millersville, Edgerton, New Washington, Toledo, and Tiffin. After retiring from teaching, she found great joy in assisting the residents at St. Francis Home. She once said, “Being able to visit, console, and pray with the elderly is a blessing.” Sister Winifred had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary was her favorite prayer. Her wish, that at her death those present would be praying the rosary, was fulfilled.
The Funeral Mass will at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006 in the St. Francis Convent chapel, Tiffin, Ohio. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Thursday, with a Christian Wake Service at 1:00 p.m. and the Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Convent or to St. Francis Home.
