Sister Mary Eleanor Rahrig, 84, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 2:26 PM in St. Francis Home.
She was born August 21, 1924, in Landeck, Ohio to the late Louis and Olivia (Clement) Rahrig.
Survivors include, three sisters, Angela Ricker, Delphos, OH; Rosemary McPheron, Lima, OH; and Noreen Ricker, Fort Jennings, OH; and one brother: Michael Rahrig, Fort Wayne, IN
Sister Eleanor served as a nurse in the motherhouse infirmary in Tiffin, Ohio, and as a surgical nurse in Mercy Hospital, Tiffin, Ohio. She was a supervisor at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Toledo; Linton Hospital, Linton, North Dakota; and Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Sister Eleanor also served as the Administrator of Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky, and then she served as an office assistant in the Business Office at the motherhouse and at St. Francis Home, Tiffin, Ohio. Upon receiving her Masters in Business Administration, Sister Eleanor became the Executive Treasurer for the Sisters of St. Francis, Tiffin, Ohio. Later in life she returned to her nursing career when she served as a part time nurse at St. Francis Home; and she continued her business career as an office worker at St. Francis Home, and as an assistant to the motherhouse administrator. Sister Eleanor ministered to the sisters at the motherhouse by being the coordinator of motherhouse transportation, assisting in housekeeping, and as a dietary aide. At the time of her death Sister Eleanor was a minister of prayer for the congregation.
Sister Eleanor was known for her gentleness and her friendly smile. She had a little chuckle that let everyone know how fully she enjoyed life.
The Funeral Mass will be 11 am Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the St. Francis Convent Chapel, 200 St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin, Ohio 44883. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, February 23, 2009 from 2-7 pm with a Christian Wake Service at 7 pm at the Convent Chapel. Visitation will also be from 9 – 11 am Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Convent or St. Francis Home.
