Sister Margaret Verhoff, 79, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, died Monday morning, August 8, 2016, at St. Francis Home.
She was born in Ottawa, Ohio, January 1, 1937, to Sylvester and Apollonia (Siebeneck) Verhoff of St. Isidore Parish, Cuba, Ohio.
Surviving is a sister, Lucille Ellerbrock of Ottawa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James and Henry Verhoff.
Sister Margaret, throughout her entire religious life, served in a variety of nursing positions, which included being a registered nurse at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky; St. Francis Home, Tiffin, Ohio; the Director of Nursing Services at St. Francis Home; and charge nurse at Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin, Ohio. She also served as the infirmarian at the motherhouse in Tiffin, and as the motherhouse health care coordinator until the time of her death.
Love of the elderly has been a hallmark of Sister Margaret’s life. In her own words: “I know I do my best when I am nursing, for I love people and I care.” She enjoyed making floral arrangements, caring for plants, visiting her family, and staying connected with her classmates from St. Rita School of Nursing in Lima, Ohio where she earned her RN. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio.
Visitation will be 2:30 to 7 pm Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at the St. Francis Convent Chapel, with a Wake service at 7 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Wednesday, August 10, 2016, in the convent chapel, with burial to follow in the St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
