Sister Adelaide Burkhart, 103, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died at 10:45 PM, Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at St. Francis Home, one week short of her 104th birthday.
She was born February 14, 1902, in Kuhn, Ohio, to Rosalia (Haren) and Jacob Burkhart.
Sister Adelaide is survived by a sister-in-law, Agnes Burkhart, of Canton, Ohio; a nephew, Monsignor Robert L. Noon, of Lancaster, Ohio; and a niece, Mrs. Willard (Rose) Parry of Zanesville, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Frank, Isadore, Roman, Leo, and Sylvester; and her sister, Theresa Noon.
Sister Adelaide served in various food service positions in Carey, Fort Jennings, Marywood, Toledo, and St. Francis Home and St. Francis Convent. At the time of her death, she was a minister of prayer for the congregation.
In her later years, Sister Adelaide longed and prayed that she could die and be with Christ, and she begged anyone who would listen to her to pray for that, too, but many were reluctant because she was their love and their light.
The Funeral Mass will be Sunday, February 12, 2006, at 4:00 p.m., in St. Francis Convent Chapel, Tiffin. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, with a Christian Wake Service at 1:00 p.m., at the Convent Chapel.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Convent or St. Francis Home.
