Sister Helen Schill, 69, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, Ohio, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
She was born March 5, 1935 in Crestline, Ohio, to Gertrude (Sheibley) and William Schill.
Surviving are her sister, Mary Schill of Crestline, Ohio, two brothers, Donald of Crestline and James of Cortland, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Patrica Shindeldecker, Ruth Coyne, and Beatrice Hays, and brothers John, Robert, and Daniel.
She served as: nurse, St. Francis Convent, Tiffin; Supervisor, Lourdes Hospital, Paducah, KY; nurse supervisor, St. Joseph Infirmary, Louisville, KY; assistant administrator/associate director, St. Joseph Infirmary, Louisville, KY; assistant administrator, Dominican Santa Cruz Hospital, Santa Cruz, CA and St. Joseph’s Hospital, Kokomo, IN; administrator, St. Anne’s Maternity Home, Los Angeles; hospitality staff member, Maple Mount Retreat Center, Kentucky, and director, Pastoral Care, Provena Mercy Hospital, Aurora, IL. At the time of her death she was a Minister of Prayer and Service in the congregation.
Wherever Helen served she brought a human touch to her ministry. One example: when she served as nursing supervisor of Lourdes Hospital, she loved to make homemade ice cream for the physicians and staff. Of course, they loved it too! With determination and simple conviction, Sister Helen always believed that wherever she was, there were the Sisters of St. Francis.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday during visitation. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Convent or St. Francis Home.
