Sister Helen B. Linder, formerly Sister Mary Gerard, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, died at 5 P.M. Thursday, April 17, 2014 at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
She was born August 14, 1924 in Payne, Ohio to John and Anna (Schall) Linder.
Surviving are three sisters, Sister Jean Linder of the Sister of St. Francis, and Genevieve Wilson both of Tiffin, Theresa Baumie of Payne; two brothers, Maurice Linder of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and James Linder of Payne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters, Catherine Gonya, Marie Linder, Josephine Huguenard, Rita Linder and Rosemary Perrine.
Sister Helen Linder served in various ministries such as nursing, congregational leadership, chaplaincy, congregational archivist, and coordinator of the media center. Her nursing ministry led her to Mercy Hospital, Tiffin to Linton Hospital in Linton, N.D.; to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.; and to the congregational infirmary, Tiffin. While ministering in Paducah, Ky., Sister Helen also served as obstetrical supervisor, and was appointed to the Kentucky State Board of Nursing by Governor Louis B. Nunn.
One of the highlights of Sister Helen’s life was the time she spent researching information as she updated the history of the Sisters of St. Francis. She developed a deep appreciation for the pioneer Sisters’ work and commitment, and an understanding of how our charism and value as a religious community highly impacted the local church.
Visitation will be 11A.M. to 1P.M., Monday, April 21, 2014 at the St. Francis Home, 182 St. Francis Ave. and 2 to 8 P.M. Monday, at the St. Francis Convent Chapel, 200 St. Francis Ave. with a 4:00 P.M. Wake service.
Visitation will also be 9-11A.M Tuesday, April 22, 2014 with the Funeral Mass at 11A.M., at St. Francis Convent Chapel with burial following at the St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
