Sister Damien Morman, age 92, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died at 3:16 pm, Monday, August 7, 2006 in St. Francis Home.
She was born November 25, 1913, in Miller City, Ohio, to Joseph and Mary Gertrude (Schmenk) Morman of Miller City, Ohio.
Surviving are her brothers, Vincent Morman of Mansfield and Joseph Morman of Marion, and her sister, Sister Gertrude Morman of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mae Recker, and Sister Anita Morman and Sister Jovita Morman, both Tiffin Franciscans; and her brothers, Adolph Morman, Rev. Edmund Morman, Rev. Richard Morman, and Rev. Wilbert Morman.
Sister Damien taught elementary school at Carey, New Washington, Peru, Fort Jennings, Blakeslee, Landeck, New Cleveland, Bucyrus, and Marywood, and served as principal at Peru and Landeck. She was an organist at St. Francis Convent, Tiffin, St. Michael’s Ridge, and in Monroe, Michigan. She worked as a recreational therapist and receptionist at St. Francis Home. At the time of her death she was a minister of prayer for the congregation.
When others were asked, “What one word comes to mind when you think of Sister Damien?”, many responded: “Smiling,” “Laughter,” “Music.”
The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am, Friday, August 11, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. Burial will follow in St. Francis Convent Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm, with a Christian Wake Service at 7 pm, at St. Francis Convent Chapel, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin. Visitation will also be held Friday from 9:30 am until time of Mass at St. Joseph Church.
