SISTER BARBARA WESTRICK

Sister Barbara Westrick, 86, of the Sisters of St. Francis, died Thursday, September 9, 2004, at 2:25 p.m. at St. Francis Convent, Tiffin, Ohio.

She was born July 2, 1918, in New Bavaria, Ohio, to Theresa (Klingshirn) and Frank Westrick.

Surviving are her sisters, Lucille Stimer of Palmetto, Florida, and Marie Niese of Leipsic, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Alice Link; and brothers Francis, Clarence, Herbert, Robert, and Leroy.

She served as elementary teacher in Fort Jennings, Carey, Frenchtown, North Auburn, and at St. Anthony Orphanage in Toledo; as high school teacher at Calvert High School, Tiffin; as college teacher at the College of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois and St. Francis Convent; in congregational leadership; as assistant director and then formation director for the Office
of Lay Ministry and Permanent Diaconate in Toledo Diocese; as director of St. Joseph Renewal Center, Tiffin; as volunteer in Naugatuck, West Virginia.
At the time of her death she was a minister of prayer and service in the congregation.

Her great love was teaching and she especially loved working in the Toledo
Diocesan Diaconate and Lay Ministry Program. Some of her hobbies were
reading, cooking, gardening, and playing cards. In recent years she worked
as a volunteer helping the poor in the mountains of West Virginia. It was in
the mountains that she said she felt closer to God than anywhere else.

The Funeral Mass will be Monday, September 13, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis
Convent Chapel, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, Ohio 44883. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 12, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A
Christian Wake Service will be on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel.
