Sister Alma Ricker, 77, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at 12:35 a.m. at St. Francis Home, Tiffin, Ohio.
She was born October 22, 1926, in Fort Jennings, Ohio, to Helen (Bensman) and Charles M. Ricker.
Surviving are: her sisters, Eleanor Ricker of Fort Jennings and Sister Edna Ricker, Tiffin Franciscan, a brother, James Ricker of Fort Jennings, and a sister-in-law, Margaret Ricker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Philip.
Sister Alma served in various ministries: as teacher at Miller City, Custar, Edgerton, Carey, Payne, New Washington, Landeck; as a house of prayer member in Michigan; as receptionist and driver at St. Francis Convent; as a homemaker in Napoleon; and at the time of death, a minister of prayer.
Sister Alma loved the Church and religious life and enjoyed spending time with community members. She liked angel pins, and wore them often. She enjoyed crafts, especially crocheting, plastic canvas work, and sewing, and shared her handiwork with others. Especially interested in farming, Sister Alma attended many meetings about farming and compiled a scrapbook.
Sister Alma loved animals, including Brownie and Susie. When she was very young, according to her sisters, Sister Edna and Eleanora, she enjoyed chickens, even to the point of putting them in a baby buggy and pushing them around the farmyard.
Sister Alma resided in the Chiara Center from 2002 until recently and was well loved by the nurses for her smile and her willing spirit to help in any way.
A Christian Wake Service will be 7:00 p.m. at the chapel.
