Shirley Emily Skokane, 94, of Tiffin and formerly of Genoa, passed away peacefully at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin. She was born December 30, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Teresa (Durante) Skokane.
She is survived locally by her sister, Lorraine Meisner, along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, June Woods and Eleanor Skokane.
Shirley was a 1944 Calvert High School graduate, and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Mary Manse College and her Master’s Degree from Bowling Green State University in education. She taught Math, English, Spanish, and History at Nazareth Hall, Grand Rapids, Ohio, then at Woodmore Middle School in Woodville where she taught for many years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
During her life, Shirley enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states and 44 countries. She also enjoyed the R.V. life for many years with her friends and dog.
Graveside services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca County Humane Society or to St. Francis Home.
