Ruth Ludwina Myers ( Nee Gerhardstein), age 89 years, of 182 St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin, Ohio, died at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2004 in St. Francis Home, Tiffin. She was born on April 23, 1914 in Seneca County, Ohio to Alphonse A. and Ludwina (Walters) Gerhardstein. They do not survive. On June 23, 1939, in St. Stephens, Ohio, she married Herman L. Myers. He died on December 11, 1988.
Other survivors include, 1 son, Dr. Roger (Gail) Myers of Indianapolis, Indiana; 3 daughters, Ann (Steve) Sirotnyak of Sylvania, Ohio; Kay (Len) Schroeder of The Woodlands, Texas; and Judy (John) Case of Denver, Colorado, 1 grandson, Michael (Michelle) Sutton of Dayton, Ohio and Ruth Case. Also surviving are many wonderful nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
She is preceded by 4 sisters, Flora (John) Felter, Lillian (Joe) Buckley; Esther (Al) Holler and Viola (Bob) Omlor; 3 brothers, Roman (Leola), Maurice (Mary) and Richard (Carolyn) Gerhardstein.
Mrs. Myers was a graduate of Bloomville High School. Herm and Ruth worked together all of their married lives. They owned a restaurant in Clyde, a gas station in Melmore, and their last business venture together was “The Garden Store” in Tiffin. After they retired, Herm and Ruth loved going to garage sales and auctions, with the hope of picking up a bargain-usually in antiques. Ruth mostly loved to talk with the people, though!
Her parents ran a general merchandise store in St. Stephens, and Ruth worked in the business during her childhood until high school graduation. Then, she went to the “Big House” in Mansfield with her sister, Esther, to be a maid. After a year or so, she was happy to be called back home to help in the family store when her older sister marrried. She was preceded in death by all her siblings, a terrific family. She outlived them all--God knows why, but we think it was because of her wonderful attitude and lovingly ornery nature!
Ruth loved life, and had the heart of a teenager. She loved playing tricks on people, and we all were humbled in her presence because we could never put on airs or act like big deals. Ruth was a lot of fun; she was a wonderful mom and loved her siblings, her whole extended family, and her friends. We will miss her terribly, and look forward to laughing with her in Heaven. She’ll be there, you can be sure!
Ruth was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. Burial will take place in Seneca Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Home in care of Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.
