Ruth Jean Westbrook Huffman, age 97, died at 2 pm, Saturday, August 21, 2004, at the St. Francis Home, Tiffin, Ohio, where she had been a resident for the past nine years.
She was born in Columbus, Ohio, on December 12, 1906. She was raised by foster parents Wilbur and Altha Dresbach, both of whom are deceased. She graduated from Columbus East High School.
She married Albert Jesse Huffman on October 25, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1990, after celebrating sixty years of marriage. During those years, they resided in several cities, including Sandusky and Berea, Ohio, before retiring to Tiffin in 1968.
Besides being a homemaker, Ruth was employed at the former Weiner Dress Shop and the Joseph’s Department Store in Sandusky. In Sandusky, she had been active in the Providence Hospital Auxiliary. In Tiffin, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a former member of the Rosary Altar Society. She was a member of the St. Francis Auxiliary. Ruth had been an avid bowler for over fifty years.
She is survived by one son, David (Mary Jane) of Port Clinton, and grandsons Andrew (Gina) of Westlake, Ohio, Jonathan of Buffalo, New York, and Edward (Kelly) of Warren, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by several nieces, including Clarann Wise, Mary Frances Young, and Kathleen Wise, all of Tiffin, Jean Miller of Fremont, Susan Omlor of Sandusky, and Alicia Barry of Charlevoix, Michigan.
A Vigil Service will be held at 8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at St. Francis Home Chapel, 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, with Rev. Richard Dunn celebrating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Tiffin. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday at St. Francis Home Chapel.
