Ruth L. Smith, 96, of Tiffin, passed at 2:47 AM, Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin, where she resided for the past three years.
Ruth was born February 12, 1922, in New Riegel, to Lewis and Helen (Wangler) Theis. She married Richard P. Smith September 5, 1945, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, and they were married for 67 years. Richard then passed October 21, 2012.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Janice) Smith of New Riegel, Steven Smith of Tiffin, James (Elaine) Smith of New Riegel; three daughters, Linda (LeVerne) Burns, Annette (Tom) Brill, Laura (John) Richey, all of Tiffin; nine grandchildren, Michelle Smith, Brent Smith, Bradley Burns, Brian Burns, Matt Brill, Alicia Warnecke, Rev. Jeffery Smith, Nathan Richey, Brianna Richey; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Paul Theis, Carl Theis, James Theis; and five sisters, Oleta Kelbley, Esther Collet, Deloris Falter, Rosemary Snavely and Elizabeth Smith.
Ruth was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society, the Farm Bureau and the Allen Eiry Senior Center. She enjoyed casino trips with Richard, walking the mall where she met many friends, and gardening.
Visitation for family and friends will be 3:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, November 11, 2018, at the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, 419-447-3113, with a wake service at 8:00 PM.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 AM, Monday, November 12, 2018, at the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited in church 20 minutes prior to Mass. Rev. Joseph Szybka and Rev. Jeffery Smith (Ruth’s grandson) will co-officiate and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Autumnwood Care Center, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
