Royal Dean Smith

Royal Dean Smith, 89, of rural Tiffin, died 1:15 am, Thursday, January 6, 2022, at St. Francis Home.

Royal was born November 26, 1932, in Berlin, New York, to Claude and Laura (Eckert) Smith. He married Kathleen Genevieve Saum April 24, 1954, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, in Liberty Township and she died July 11, 2017.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah (Jackie) Cooper of Sanford, North Carolina; a son, Dean (Suzy) Smith of Tiffin; three grandchildren, Melissa Posey, Kaitlyn (Roman) Ream, Aaron Post; six great-grandchildren, Quinton Posey, Ethan Posey, Elaina Post, Leo Post, Royal Ream, and Rockwell Ream.

Royal was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and five brothers, Vincent Smith, Huey Smith, Thaddeus Smith, Justin Smith and Meade Smith.

Royal was a 1952 graduate of Jackson-Liberty High School, retired from Basic Refractories, and was a long time farmer and truck driver for the Tiffin Grain Elevator.   He was a member of the Farm Bureau and T-Squares.  He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Visitation for family and friends will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Monday, January 10, 2022, at the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.

Service will be 1:00 pm, Monday, January 10, 2022, at the funeral home with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort.
