Robert Urban Schreiner, age 81, of St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin, died at 8:30 pm Sunday, January 27, 2008 in St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

He was born on June 9, 1926 in Tiffin, to the late Urban and Lucille (Smith) Schreiner. On September 5, 1949 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married Evelyn Serr, and she survives.

Other survivors include, two sons, Mark (Eileen) Schreiner of Toledo; Matthew (Angie) Schreiner of Seneca, South Carolina; three daughters, Mary (John) Rugh of Bucyrus; Monica (Fred) Roberson of Efland, North Carolina; and Martha (Timothy) Lassiter of Durham, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Christina (Ric) Prine, Brian and Bethany Schreiner, Evan Schreiner, Kyle and Stacy Roberson, Abby and Eric Lassiter; a great granddaughter, Kassondra Prine; and a sister, Dorothy Kummerer of Tiffin.

Mr. Schreiner was a 1944 Calvert High School graduate. He served in the United States Army as a Private 1st Class.

Robert retired in 1985 after 38 years at American Standard. He then worked at Meyer’s Warehouse until 1990. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Auxiliary, the Holy Name, and the Tiffin Calvert Boosters. He was a former School Crossing Guard for Tiffin City Schools and he had received the Tom Omlor Super Booster Award. Robert was a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan and he loved spending time with his family.

The Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 pm Friday, February 1, 2008 in St. Joseph Catholic Church officiated by his nephew, Rev. Timothy Kummerer and Rev. Joseph Szybka. The rosary will be recited at the church 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will take place immediately following at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at the gravesite by the United Veteran’s Council of Seneca County.

There will be a wake service at 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church Building Fund or to Calvert Athletic Boosters in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
