Robert O. Gase, age 99, of Tiffin died at 12:47 pm, Thursday, April 24, 2008 in St. Francis Home, Tiffin. He was born on February 11, 1909 in Tiffin to the late Joseph A. and Lavina (Welly) Gase. On October 27, 1934 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Pauline McIntyre. She died October 23, 2001 just days before their 67th anniversary.
Survivors include three daughters, Dr. Judette M. Kolasny of Milwaukee; Kathleen L. (Merlin) Scholtes of Valentine, Nebraska; and Margaret Mary (Dr. Leonard) Weber of Detroit, Michigan; two grandchildren, Marcia Weber of Loveland, Ohio and Robert Weber of Northville, Michigan; and three great grandchildren, Benjamin, Katherine and Zachary Winoker of Loveland.
Mr. Gase is preceded in death by his siblings, Agnes Phillips of Tiffin, Gerald Gase of Pennsylvania, Eugene Gase of Washington state and Sr. Mary Geraldine, OSU, Toledo.
Mr. Gase graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from the Pontifical College of the Josephinum. Mr. Gase was a teacher of Latin and German at Calvert High School from 1930 – 1937. In 1937, Mr. Gase began work at the United States Postal Service in Tiffin and he retired as an Assistant Postmaster in 1973 after working there for 36 years. He was the Director of the Men’s Choir at St. Joseph church for many years. He was one of the founding committee members of the St. Joseph Credit Union and a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus.
The Funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. Joseph Szybka at 11:30 am Monday, April 28, 2008 in the St. Francis Home Chapel. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:30 - 11:30 am Monday, April 28, 2008 at St. Francis Home Chapel.
