Robert E. Elchert, age 76 years of Tiffin, Ohio died at 5:47 PM, Tuesday, December 20, 2005, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital, Tiffin. He was born on September 13, 1929 in Tiffin, to the late Earl and Lillian (Lehnert) Elchert. On August 27, 1955 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Margaret Loesser, which they had been married for 50 years, and she survives.

Other survivors include 5 children, Karen Elchert of Dublin, Ohio; Nicholas (Kathy) Elchert of Tiffin; Stephen (Angie) Elchert of Fremont; Brenda (Brian) Kocak of Dublin; and Gregory (Tammy) Elchert of Tiffin. 10 grandchildren, Heather Hess; Jessica, Lindsey, and Holly Elchert; Brian Kocak, Jr. and Bethany Kocak; Tracy, Jordan, Joshua and Madison Elchert. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Paul Elchert, Sr.; Charles “Bump” Elchert; and 1 sister, Nancy Elchert.

Mr. Elchert was 1947 Calvert High School graduate. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict in the AUS AMED unit stationed in Alaska. Mr. Elchert had retired as a cast shop Foreman at American Standard after 43 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin and the Knights of Columbus, where he served as a past Grand Knight. for 2 terms; He was the secretary of the summer Golf League and the Tiffin Bowling League; He served on the Board of Directors for the Knights of Columbus Bowling League of Ohio; a volunteer at Mercy Hospital; a member of the Eagles (FOE) and AmVets. Robert was an avid bowler and a golfer. He loved to fish during the summer in Port Clinton.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2005 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. There will be a Wake Service at 8:00 PM, Thursday, at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. James K. Say in St. Joseph Catholic Church, at 11:00 am, Friday, December 23, 2005. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The Seneca County Veterans will perform military rites at the grave site.
