Robert Carl Logsdon, 94, of Middlefield, Ohio, formerly of Tiffin, died at 1:32 pm Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Briar Hill Health Care Residence, Middlefield.
He was born October 10, 1920, in Carey, to Raymond and Lavinia (Haferd) Logsdon. He married Emma Lucille Mattmiller in Tiffin April 19, 1941. She died July 12, 2007.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy (Wanda) Logsdon of Huntsburg, Ohio, and Thomas Logsdon of Upper Arlington, Ohio; a grandson, Matthew Grant Logsdon; and two sisters, Ruth Williams of Venice, Fla., and Rosemary Wilhelm of Tiffin.
He was also preceded in death by a son, James Allen Logsdon, two daughters, Theresa Louise Logsdon and Joyce Ann Logsdon, and four brothers, Raymond, Richard, Ralph, and Russel Logsdon.
Mr. Logsdon grew up in Tiffin and graduated from Calvert High School in 1938. After they married, he and Emma moved to Cleveland so Robert could work for TRW. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and rose to the rank of corporal during World War II. He was injured at Iwo Jima and was awarded the Purple Heart. He then returned to work and retired in 1985 as a pipefitter for TRW.
He was a member of the VFW, the Marine Corps League, Third Marine Division Association, and the Calvert Alumni Association.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, from 3:30 to 7 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419)447-3113. The United Veterans Council will perform military rites at 7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 am Monday, March 23, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
