Robert L. Eckert, age 91, of Tiffin, died at 2:05 am, Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.

Robert was born June 12, 1921 in Seneca County, Ohio to Reuben and Pauline (Lorentz) Eckert.  He married Ruth F. Lucius, June 11, 1941 at St. Mary Catholic Church, and she died October 22, 2006.

He is survived by two daughters, Judy Carrick of Indianapolis, Ind., and Elaine Elchert of Findlay; four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; and two sisters, Beatrice Lynch and Martha Bland, both of Fostoria.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Eckert, and two sisters, Margaret Finsel and Kathryn Funk.

Mr. Eckert served in the Army during World War II and received a Bronze Star.  He retired as a machinist at National Machinery Company, after 42 years of service.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Quarter Century Club, and the American Legion.  He was proud to have flown on an Honor Flight to Washington, DC in June, 2011.

Visitation will be Monday, September 24, 2012, from 9 am to 10:30 am, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio  44883 (419)447-3113, followed by the funeral Mass at 11 am at St. Mary Catholic Church.  The Rosary will be recited in church 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Rev. Gary Walters will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  The United Veterans Council will perform military rites at the cemetery.
