Rita V. Wurm, age 90, formerly of E. US 224, Tiffin, Ohio died at 6:50 am Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born on July 8, 1916 in New Riegel, Ohio to the late Alphonse and Sarah (Gerber) Schalk. Sarah died on November 17, 1918. Then Catherine Reinhart married Alphonse Schalk. On July 22, 1938 Rita married Carl Hohman. He died on April 19, 1939 after brain surgery. On July 24, 1945 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rita married Vincent Wurm after he spent five years in World War II. He died on November 24, 1973 after being hit in a car accident.
Surviving are two sons, John (Bernadette) Wurm and Thomas Wurm, both of Tiffin; two daughters, Sarah Miller of Springboro, Ohio; and Mary (Ronald) Schaar of Sewickley, PA; seven grandchildren, Eric Miller, Jennifer Friesinger, Lisa Newberry, Melissa Miller, Vincent Wurm, Angela Wurm, and Victoria Wurm; four great grandchildren; four brothers, Simon (Martha) Schalk of New Riegel; Florus (Viola) Schalk of Tiffin; Raymond (Anne) Schalk of Findlay; and Arthur (Shirley) Schalk of New Riegel; three sisters, Marie (James) Scherger of New Riegel; Gervase (William) Craig of Tiffin; and Rose (Joe) Smith of Tiffin. She is also survived by a dear friend, Herval Thallman.
She is preceded in death by one brother, George Schalk; and two sisters, Irene Elchert and Alice Nye.
Mrs. Wurm was a 1935 graduate of New Riegel High School. She had been a waitress at the Riverview Inn, served on the Election Board, she worked in peoples homes and she was also a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, and St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Republic and its Rosary Altar Society.
The Funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. Joseph Szybka at 11am Wednesday, March 14, 2007 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, with a Parish Wake service at 8 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.
