She was born October 27, 1925, in Remington, Indiana, to the late Joseph and Theresia (Trulley) Jarvis. On June 10, 1950 in Rensselaer, Indiana she married Thomas J. Scheiber. He preceded Rita in death on Sunday, December 24, 2006.
Survivors include, one son, Thomas J. (Janice) Scheiber, of Attica, Ohio and Minot, North Dakota; one daughter, Tressa E. (Robert) Reith of Crestline, Ohio; four grandchildren, Lauren (Adam Greiner) and Meredith Scheiber, Lesley (Megan) Koilparampil, and Emily Reith; two great-grandchildren, Madi Bell and Douglas Greiner; three sisters, Catherine Schilling and Rose Schmitz of Lafayette, Indiana and Mary Stath of Rensselaer, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Carbone of Rochester, New York; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom, and one grandson, Douglas Scheiber. She is also preceded in death by her brother Anthony Jarvis, and sisters Eileen Bennett and Helen Brown. All of her siblings’ spouses are also deceased.
Mrs. Scheiber was a 1943 Remington (Indiana) High School graduate. She worked as a secretary for her future brother-in-law, Dick, at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Indiana. Dick introduced Rita to his brother, Tom Scheiber, and the match made in Heaven is now united there again.
Rita wore many hats. Over the span of her life she was employed as a dental hygienist, a department store clerk, and, at least twice, a secretary. She volunteered actively while her kids were in Scouts and in school. She and her husband, Tom, were band parents, escorting the Calvert High School Marching Band to all their football games. She was a woman of faith whose Christian example was an integral part of her life as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a care giver who loved and nurtured her husband through debilitating illness in his final years, teaching us all to value the strength of married love and the integrity of those transformed by their affliction. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, its Rosary Altar Society and the Women’s Choir.
