Richard L. Schumm, age 71, of Liberty Township, Seneca County, Ohio, died December 20, 2001. He was born June 28, 1930, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Herman and Kathryn (Dowdell) Schumm. On September 5, 1953, in St. Andrew Catholic Church, he married Coletta M. Scherger, and she survives. Also surviving are 4 sons, Ronald, Stephen, John, and Gerald; 1 daughter, Lori Tanner, 2 sisters, Margaret Deats and Gertrude Perko; 19 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a son, Michael, twin daughters, Mary and Beverly, and 1 sister, Frances Schumm. Mr. Schumm was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he received the Bronze Star and the Korean Medal. He attended Calvert High School, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, New Riegel American Legion Post 354, a past volunteer fireman and former assistant fire chief for the Bascom Fire Department. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by the New Riegel American Legion. There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to the church or to Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.
