Richard Paul Warnement

Richard Paul Warnement, Sr. 85, formerly of Tiffin, Ohio, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2017, at Waltonwood Cotswold.

Dick was born August 29, 1932, in Tiffin, to Paul Richard and Marian (Sexton) Warnement.  He married Nancy Wurm, August 9, 1952, at St. Mary Catholic Church and she survives.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy Louise Wurm Warnement as well as their three sons and families: Richard Paul (Nancy Rider) Warnement II, of Charlotte, NC, Victor Alan (Kelly Walker) Warnement of Charlotte, NC and Joseph Lee (Anne Moody) Warnement of Diablo, CA; 10 grandchildren: Andrew Jason (Carolyn),  Warnement of Ghent, Belgium, Brent Richard (Moira),  Warnement of Mount Prospect, IL, Craig Thomas (Lauren) Warnement of Charlotte, NC, Alexander Paul (Georgiana)  Warnement of New York, NY, Timothy James Warnement of Atlanta, GA, Samantha Leigh Warnement of Los Angeles, CA, Victor Joseph “Tripp” Warnement of Charlotte, NC, Chelsea Leigh Warnement of Naples, FL, Jordan Corinne Warnement of Fort Worth, TX and Madeline Claire Warnement of Sonoma, CA.; five great-grandchildren: Allison, Emily and Benjamin Warnement of Ghent, Belgium and William and James Warnement of Mount Prospect, IL; three Sisters-in laws Kathleen Wurm Klopp, Dorothy Wurm Carlson, Janet Wurm Altwies; a brother-in-law, Michael Victor Wurm and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, older and younger brothers, Thomas Warnement and Edward Warnement; three brothers-in-law, Tom Company, Sr., Jim Altwies and Dean Klopp; a sister-in-law, Margaret Wurm Warnement; and four nephews: Thomas Warnement, Jr., Todd Warnement, Nicholas Klopp and Peter Klopp.

Dick graduated from Calvert High School in 1950, was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and served during the Korean War. He lived his entire life in Tiffin except for the three years he was stationed in Morehead City, NC until moving to Charlotte three years ago. He worked for National Machinery Company for 41 years before retiring in 1991, and he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He worked hard to provide for his family and cared for many of his family members throughout their lives. He largely built the home he and wife, Nancy, raised their family in and lived in for 60 years. He was extremely proud of his three boys and all their accomplishments. He rarely missed any of his sons’ football games and often traveled to watch them play at Toledo and Princeton Universities. He and Nancy made it a point to attend many of their grandchildren’s graduations, football, baseball, basketball and soccer games, rugby and tennis matches, horse shows and dance recitals.

Following his retirement, Dick and Nancy spent winters at their home in Sun City West, AZ where they enjoyed hosting many friends and family members. Dick loved spending time with his sisters and brothers-in-law often attending spring training games and playing euchre at their get-togethers. He was also active for years in a senior softball league in their community. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame, the Ohio State Buckeyes and was a Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.

Dick was active in his community and served on the advisory Boards of Mercy Hospital and St. Joseph’s Parish in Tiffin. He was a big supporter of youth sports including coaching youth baseball for National Machinery and City league teams.  For many years he also served as an announcer for both the Calvert and Columbian football programs and was a high school basketball referee in Northwest OH.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2017, with a wake service at 7:45 p.m. at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. The Quarter Century Club will meet at 7 p.m.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the funeral home followed by the Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Tiffin.  Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate.   The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The United Veteran’s Council of Seneca County will perform military rites at the gravesite.
