Richard J. Puffenberger, Sr., 91, of Tiffin, Ohio, died at 5:30 am Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Friedman Village Assisted Living, Tiffin.
Richard was born June 1, 1921 to Earl J. and Gretchen (Daus) Puffenberger. He married Dorothy Angus on September 30, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dorothy survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Rick (Becky) Puffenberger, Jr. of Sylvania and Jim (Deb) Puffenberger of Bratenahl, Ohio; one daughter, Judy (Bob) Zimmerman of Sidney; eight grandchildren, Greg, Geoff, Mark (Allie), Matt, Sarah and Mary Zimmerman, Mike (Kathryn) Puffenberger and Katie (Rob) Wambo; and one great-grandson, Cooper Zimmerman.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Jane Catherine Puffenberger; and two sisters, Sr. Mary Gretchen, OSU and Alice Mehling.
Richard was a 1939 graduate of Calvert High School and was voted by his peers for the May Crowning. He managed and owned Puffenberger Floor Coverings. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, past Grand Knight of the Tiffin Knights of Columbus, and an honorary life member, board member and officer of St. Joseph Federal Credit Union for 37 years. He was also a member of the Serra Club of Tiffin and Holy Name Society. He delivered Mercy Hospital Mobile Meals as a volunteer and volunteered at the St. Francis Home. He was an avid woodworker, doing much of the craftwork for the Josephines.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, 419-447-3113.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2013 at the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Revs. Joseph Szybka and Frank Murd concelebrating. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
