Richard B. Miller, 85, was called home to the Lord, June 23, 2019. Richard was born August 8, 1933, in Tiffn, to Valerius and Alma (Powers) Miller. He married Yvonne Perrine, Dec. 5, 1959, in Tiffin and she survives.
Other survivors include many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother James A. Miller.
Richard was a 1951 Columbian High School graduate. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg College in 1955. He earned his Master’s and Specialist degrees from Bowling Green State University in 1962 and 1968. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958, with most of his service time in Germany.
Richard retired from the Tiffin Public Schools in 1987. He taught at Krout School and was a principal of College Hill School, Bloomville School, Lincoln and Krout Elementaries. He was an active member at Trinity United Church of Christ and taught Sunday school there for 20 years. He served as the Church Council president, was active in the Church’s senior citizens group and a Parish visitor for 12 years. He was a long time member of the Tiffin Kiwanis Club and served as its president in 1963. He also served as President of the Kiwanis Manor board during the construction of the building.
Richard was a member of Tiffin Masonic Lodge #77, Clinton Council #47, Seneca Chapter #42, Demoley Commandery #9, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Zenobia Shrine Center, and Tiffin Shrine Hornets, and one of the early Presidents of SCAT.
Family and friends may visit from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2019 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419)447-3113.
The funeral service will be 11 am Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Trinity United Church of Christ, with visitation also one hour prior to services at the church.
Pastor Kurt Schaller Blaufuss will officiate, and burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Egberts Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Memorials may be made to the Shrine Children’s Hospitals or to Trinity United Church of Christ.
