Reverend Richard Connor Dunn, age 88, of St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin, Ohio died at 4:34 am Tuesday, March 10, 2009 in St. Francis Home, Tiffin. He was born on September 18, 1920 in Tiffin to the late John E. and Ethel (Culhane) Dunn.
Survivors include two brothers, Monsignor Edward Dunn of Mansfield, Ohio and John L. Dunn of Tiffin; two nephews, Michael (Mary) Dunn and John (Leslie) Dunn.
He was a 1938 Tiffin Calvert High School graduate. He had attended St. Gregory Seminary, St. Joseph’s College, Rensalear, IN, Catholic University, and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, Norwood. He had served in the United States Army from 1951 – 1958 serving as an Army Chaplain in both the Europe and Korean Theaters.
Father Dunn was ordained on December 8, 1945 as a Roman Catholic Priest. He served the Toledo Diocese as an Assistant or Pastor at SS Peter and Paul, Sandusky; St. Charles, Toledo; St. Ann, Toledo; Immaculate Conception, Port Clinton; St. Mary, Kirby; Chaplain at Mercy Hospital, Toledo; St. Patrick’s, Bascom; St. Andrew’s, Liberty Township; St. Mary, Wakeman; Sacred Heart Parish, Bethlehem; Holy Family, New Cleveland; Chaplain at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima; St. John’s, Landeck; and St. Patrick’s, Spencerville; and he retired to Tiffin in 1988 to be Chaplain at Mercy Hospital.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 12, 2009 from 1-3 pm at St. Francis Home Chapel, Tiffin. There will be a Reception Of The Body and a Vespers service at 4 pm, Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin with visitation continuing until 8 pm. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus are to stand honor guard Thursday evening at the church. Visitation will also be on Friday, March 13, 2009 from 9:30 - 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church.
The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am Friday in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair, Bishop of the Toledo Diocese, will officiate. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, with military rites at the gravesite by the New Riegel American Legion.
