Rev. Dennis A. Schroeder, 82, of Tiffin, died Saturday, January 27, 2018, at his residence. He was born September 3, 1935, in Putnam County, Ohio to Vincent and Kathryn (Lammers) Schroeder.
Fr. Dennis A. Schroeder gave his complete self to God one final time as he passed from this life early Saturday morning Jan. 27. He was 82 years old and had spent 57 years as a priest in the Toledo Diocese.
Survivors include five brothers, Mark (Norma) Schroeder of New Cleveland, Earl (Jeanette) Schroeder of Glandorf, Steve (Helen) Schroeder of Atlanta Ga., Vince (Mary) Schroeder of Cleveland, and Lou (Jan) Schroeder of Chicago, Ill.; four sisters, Marilyn Ruhe, of New Cleveland, Evelyn Milano of Chicago, Pat (Jon) Bennett of Lima, and Sister Paulette Schroeder of Tiffin; two sisters-in-law, Jean Schroeder of Lima, and Ruth Rieman of Ottawa. Fr. Den also had 41 nieces and nephews and many, many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and Vincent, three siblings, Phyliss Rieman, Frank Schroeder, and Vernon Schroeder, a sister-in-law, Dolly Schroeder; and three brothers-in-law, Carl Rieman, Bob Ruhe and Michael Milano.
Fr. Dennis served at St. Joseph Parish, Marblehead, St. Joseph Parish, Galion, St. Mary Parish, Norwalk, St. Wendelin Parish, Fostoria, St. Michael Parish, Providence, St. Patrick parish Rossford, Holy Trinity Parish, Bucyrus, St. Mary Parish, Clyde, and St. Joseph Parish, Tiffin. He retired to Tiffin, Oh.
Fr. Den lived a very simple life, donating to many charities. At every opportunity, however, he tuned into a Cleveland Indians, Browns or Cavs game. No one could have been a stronger longtime fan of the Cleveland teams than Den.
Family, friends, and the Sisters of St. Francis, in Tiffin whom he also served, shall miss Fr. Den’s gentle, humble presence, his willingness to serve, his prayerfulness, his ministry to the sick and his celebration of the Eucharist which he loved so much.
Visitation will be, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, and 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin followed by a Funeral Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m. The Most Rev. Daniel E. Thomas, Bishop of Toledo, will preside. The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree will stand honor guard at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Thursday evening.
Fr. Dennis will then be transported to Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland, Friday, with visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, with a short prayer service by Monsignor Charles Singler, followed by burial in Holy Family Cemetery, New Cleveland.
