Pete J. Race, age 81 of St. Francis Home, Tiffin, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2006 at Mercy Hospital, Tiffin. His most recent prior residence was Fostoria, Ohio. He was born in Lakewood, Ohio on June 21, 1924 to George and Anna Race. He graduated from Clyde High School and was a World War II army veteran who served in Germany.
He was a barber in Toledo and in Tiffin for many years.
He married Evelyn Lenhart on November 25, 1954 and they divorced in 1989. She survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving are his 4 children, John (Carol)of Bertha, MN, Laurie (Dan) Reinhart of Carey, Teresa (Tim) Hess of Tiffin, and Tony of St. Louis, MO.; 9 Grandchildren, Joshua, Adam, Chiara, Andrea and Felicia Race, Ted and Julie Reinhart, Jeremiah Hess and Michelle(George) Morgan; 3 brothers, Michael Aman, Charles Wolf, and Joseph Wolf all of Florida; and 1 sister, Helen Brow of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 3 brothers, Bill, Steve, and George Race; 1 sister, Mary Ann Aman; and a grandson Zachariah Hess.
Mr. Race was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. He enjoyed photography, training dogs, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 4-7 p.m. at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2006 in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. James K. Say officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the United Veteran’s Council of Seneca County.
A wake service will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass.
