OWEN LEWIS SHUTT, JR.

Owen Lewis Shutt, Jr., 85, of Tomb St. died at 7 am, Monday, January 24, 2011 at his residence.

Owen was born to the late Owen Lewis and Myrtia Mae (Ruch) Shutt, Sr. August 26, 1925 in Seneca County. On November 25, 1944 he married Drusilla Rose Schafer in Hattiesburg, Miss., and she survives in Tiffin. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this past Thanksgiving.

Also surviving Owen are; one son, David Owen (Connie) Shutt; two daughters, Sharon Marie (Bill) Compliment and Debora Jane (Dennis) Wilkinson, all three of Tiffin; five grandchildren; William Paul (Jennifer), Michael Joseph (Beth), and Robert Charles Compliment, Janet Kay (Eric)Traxler and Jessica Alane Wilkinson; five great-grandchildren; Kyle James, Kristen Marie, Mikayla DeAnne, and Paul Lewis Compliment and Hayden Scott Traxler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Hampshire.

Owen graduated from Columbian High School. His senior year he joined the United States Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He then worked as a finish carpenter for Dariano, Hossler, Zeis and Getz Construction Companies. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Moose, Allen Eiry Senior Center and was a life member of the VFW. Owen loved to travel and loved to be outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and boating. He also loved to work on wood projects in his workshop.

Visitation for Owen will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Wednesday, January 26, 2011 with a wake service beginning at 1:30 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 am, Thursday, January 27 at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. The rosary will be said 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will be immediately following in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The United Veteran’s Council will perform military rites at the gravesite.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, Calvert Catholic Schools, Community Hospice Care or to the Allen Eiry Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
