Myron J. Smith, 79, of the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky and formerly of rural Tiffin, died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2006 at Firelands Regional Hospital, Sandusky. On November 17, 1926 in Tiffin, he was born to the late Albert and Martha (Welly) Smith.

Survivors include 3 sons; Michael J. Smith, Tiffin, Charles L. (Polly) Smith, Appleton, WI, David A. Smith, Tiffin, 4 daughters; Janet M. (Robert) Straub, Bettsville, Kathleen R. Smith, Tiffin, Dorothy L. (Rick) Hjortsberg, Perrysburg, Susan J. (Scott) Yoakam, Swanton, OH, 10 grandchildren; Chad (Katie) Straub and Audrey Straub; Stuart, Macy and Teddy Smith; Kassy (Aaron) Noblet; Rebecca and Lee Hjortsberg, Scott and Shawn Black, 6 great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Richard P. Smith, Tiffin, Carl Smith, Fostoria, and a sister Catherine Schalk of New Riegel.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers Maurice, Kenneth and Alfred Smith, a sister Alice Seitz, a grandson Henry Straub.

Mr. Smith, a 1944 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, served in the U.S. Army from Oct 1945 until June of 1947. He was a farmer and had also retired from Seneca Wire in Fostoria. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing euchre and popping popcorn on Saturday nights, and also enjoyed playing Bingo.

The Funeral Mass will be officiated by Rev. James K. Say at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 18, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will take place immediately following at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. The Rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. The United Veterans Council of Seneca County will perform military rites at the grave.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
