Msgr. Edward C. Dunn, 95, of Tiffin and Mansfield, died at 9:46 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at his residence in Mansfield.
He was born December 10, 1916, in Tiffin to John and Ethel (Culhane) Dunn.  He is survived by a brother, John L. Dunn of Tiffin, and two nephews, Mike (Mary) Dunn; and John L. (Leslie) Dunn, Jr.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Richard C. Dunn.
Msgr. Dunn was a graduate of Tiffin St. Mary’s and Tiffin Calvert High School, St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, Ind., Assumption, Sandwish, Ontario, Basselin Scholar, Theological College/Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. where he earned his STL in Theology, bachelor of arts in philosophy and master of science in church history.
Immediately following his ordination, Msgr. Was appointed assistant at St. Rose, Lima.  His other appointments were; October, 1948, assistant at Blessed Sacrament parish, Toledo; July 1952, assistant principal of Calvert High School, and chaplain at St. Francis Home, Tiffin; June 1956, principal of Calvert and chaplain for the Ursuline convent.  From there, he went to St. Peter’s Parish in Mansfield as pastor from 1969-1984 and was principal at St. Peter’s High School. 1984-1992 he was appointed to Clyde St. Mary’s where he was granted Senior Status.  1992- until present, he was actively involved at St. Joseph’s and St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
Msgr. Dunn served as co-chairman of the United Fund Drive in Tiffin and was one of the directors for 12 years.  He was a member of the Toledo Diocesan School Board; involved in the first inner city church councils and outreach programs in Mansfield.  Other Diocesan Service and Honors:  domestic Prelate, Diocesan School Board, Dean of Mansfield Deanery, Episcopal Vicar, Personnel Board, and the Clyde Ministerial Association.
Pope Paul VI, through the Most Rev. George J. Rehring, Bishop of Toledo, appointed the Very Rev. Edward C. Dunn, principal of Calvert, a papal chamberlain, with the title of Very reverend Monsignor, which was officially made known January 3, 1964.  In 1934, as a speaker to his graduating Calvert High School class said, “We know that we cannot live our lives apart and neglect our less fortunate neighbors.  In the very beginning of time, God clearly taught us that we are our brothers’ keepers.” Then in September 1956, again at Calvert, as a principal, said, “This is one family. You call me Father. You are sons and daughters. We belong to one another.”
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Monday, Aug 27, 2012 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Mansfield.  A prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin with visitation following until 9:00 p.m.   Visitation will also be Tuesday, Aug 28 from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
