Mary Margaret Sands, 90, of Westlake, died at 5:45 pm Thursday, February 19, 2009, at the Lutheran Home of Westlake.
She was born in Tiffin on April 18, 1918, to the late Frederick “Fritz” and Rose (Traunero) Lang. On June 24, 1944, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married Donald Sands, who died November 23, 1967.
Survivors include a son, Frederick “Fritz” (Katherine) Sands of Sammamish, Wash.; three grandchildren, Sean, Penny, and Dylan Sands; and a sister, Pat Grundtisch of Findlay.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Florian “Gene” Lang.
Mrs. Sands was a 1936 Calvert High School graduate and earned a Bachelors of Science in Nurses Education in 1941 from the University of Dayton. She was a retired registered nurse and medical-surgical nurse instructor at Lutheran Hospital, Cleveland. She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, and the Calvert Alumni Club.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2:00 pm June 20, 2009 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Tiffin. Memorials may be made to St. Judes Research Hospital, Poor Clare Sisters, Calvert Foundation, or University of Dayton in care of Traunero Funeral Home.
