Mary Lou Distel, 83, of Tiffin, died at 3:50 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2020, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
She was born June 28, 1936, in Seneca County, Ohio to Carl and Theresa (Beat) Daniel. She married Richard Distel, October 1, 1955, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. He died January 4, 2007.
She is survived by five sons, Dan (Lynn) Distel, Matt (Micky) Distel, Marty (Jen) Distel, Greg (Ruth) Distel all of Tiffin and Larry Distel of Fostoria; two daughters, Diane (Jim) Baker of Tiffin, and Sara (Matt) Van Horn, of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren,27 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, three brothers, Joe (Lucille) Daniel, John (Nancy) Daniel, Paul Daniel, all of Tiffin; three sisters, Dorothy Arbogast of Republic, Margaret King of Arizona, and Barb (Jerry) Lemmerman of Galloway, Ohio.
She is preceded by her parents, her husband, Richard, a daughter, Barbra Distel, 1987; two brothers, Norman and Vincent Daniel, and a sister, Germaine Vent.
Mary Lou was a 1954 Calvert High School graduate. She retired as a Teacher’s Aide after 29 years at the Seneca County Opportunity Center. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Women’s Choir, and she served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Parent Council at the Opportunity Center and as a volunteer driver for Mobile Meals.
A Walk-Through Visitation for family and friends will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. Visitors are asked to wear masks, social distance as they walk through, pay respects, and exit without lingering. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the funeral home followed by the Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. Rosary will be recited in church 20 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ursuline Convent Toledo, Seneca County Opportunity Center or to Calvert Catholic Schools.
