Marilyn Mae Gillig, 63, of Beechwood Drive, Tiffin, Ohio died at 2:08 am Sunday, June 3, 2007 in Mercy Hospital Emergency Room. She was born on May 5, 1944 in Tiffin, to the late Paul and Alberta J. (Scherley) Rumschlag. On June 26, 1965 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married James L. Gillig and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Brian (Tracilu) Gillig; Brad (Bonnie) Gillig both of Tiffin; one daughter, Jami (Craig) Hepp of Tiffin; eight grandchildren, Tyler Gillig; Taylor and Katelyn Gillig; Allison, Samantha and Audrey Hepp; Jessica and Les Lehmann; three brothers, Gary (Terry) Rumschlag of Risingsun, Ohio; Thomas (Shirley) Rumschlag of Attica; Mark (Michelle) Rumschlag of Tiffin; two sisters, Paula (Russ) Welty of Fremont; and Mary Beth (Chuck) Wonderly of Fremont; Nieces and Nephews, Cher, Derrick, Scott, Chris, Danielle, Michael, Lindsay, Jason, Sarah, Laura and Meghan.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew, Gary Paul Rumschlag.
Mrs. Gillig was a 1962 Calvert High School graduate. She was a graduate of the 1965 Mercy School of Nursing and then she graduated from Bowling Green State University with a BS in Nursing in 1993. in 1998 she obtained her Master’s Degree from Ohio State University. She was a Registered Nurse Clinician and Director of Outpatient Services and Pain Management at Mercy Hospital.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Certified Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner, she had worked in all the departments at Mercy Hospital, she served as a consultant to Nursing Homes, and a member of St. Vincent Advance Practice Nurse Group.
On the 5th of October, 2004 Marilyn received her award of 40 years of service from Mercy Hospital.
Marilyn had been a cheerleader advisor to Tiffin City Schools for 20 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother that intertwined her entire day around her family. Everyday consisted of babysitting, swimming, ball games, her flower garden, cheers and dances. She had tended to the feeding of the birds and squirrels in her backyard. She was a foster parent for many children over the years.
The Funeral Mass will be at 11 am Friday, June 29, 2007, in St. Mary Catholic Church. Friends may call one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
