Marie E. Portman, age 83, of Tiffin, OH and formerly of Wheeling, WV, and Marietta, OH died at 10:30 pm, Wednesday April 29, 2009 in Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH.
Marie was born January 22, 1926 in Butler, PA to the late Frank and Esther (Scott) Freeman. On May 7, 1947 she married Robert J. Portman in St. Peter Catholic Church in Butler. He died May 20, 1996.
She is survived by two sons, Dwight J. (Susan) Portman of Cincinnati, and L. Robert (Debbie) Portman of Springboro, OH; two daughters, Ellen (Paul) Bielewicz, of Great Mills, MD, and Louise (Douglas) Ducsay of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren, Clifford, Beth; Paul, Jim, Katie, Anna; Danielle, Johnathan; Maria, and Sarah; three great-grandchildren, Veronica, Eve; and Lily.
Marie was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Freeman and a sister Doris Walsh.
She graduated from Butler High School and attended Grove City College, Grove City, PA. Marie was employed as a medical technician at hospitals in Butler and Marietta. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Tiffin. She was a resident and active member of St. Francis community. She enjoyed Bridge and Canasta and her swim classes at the YMCA.
Friends and family may call from 4-7 pm, Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 South Monroe St. Tiffin, Oh 44883, 419-447-3113. There will be a wake service at 3:45 pm Sunday.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 am, Monday, May 4, 2009 at Traunero Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be at 10 am, Monday, May 4, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church of Tiffin. The Rev.Gary Walters will officiate. Burial will take place at 3:30 pm at Highland Ridge Cemetery in Lowell, OH.
Friends may visit with the family after the 7:45 am Mass on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 in St. Mary’s Church, Marietta, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Francis Senior Ministries; St. Mary’s School, Tiffin; St. Mary’s School, Marietta; and the Holy Cross Association, South Bend, IN.
