Margaret Elizabeth Brickner Smith, age 91, formerly of Kiwanis Manor, Tiffin, died at 5:43 am, Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Bellevue Hospital.
Margaret was born August 26, 1917 in Bascom, Ohio to the late William and Adeline (Koerper) Brickner. On May 30, 1939 she married Herman C. Smith in St. Andrew Church of Liberty Township, and he died July 29, 1978.
Margaret is survived by one son, Laurence (Diane) Smith of Indianapolis, IN; three daughters, Mary Ann Porter, of Paulding, OH, Elaine (Kenneth) Hess of Bellevue, and Karen (Donald) Brown of Swanton;12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers Vincent (Clara) Brickner, of Fostoria; and Roger (Midge) Brickner of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth (Marilyn) Brickner, Norbert (Mary) Brickner and one sister, Imelda (Gerald) Scherger.
Margaret was a homemaker. She also worked as a clerk at Woolworth’s and retired from Columbian High School, working in the cafeteria. Margaret was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rosary Altar Society, and the Daughters of Isabella.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113. The Wake service will be at 1:45 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Prayers will be said at 10:30 am, Monday, May 11, 2009 at the funeral home, followed by the Mass at 11:00 am in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial is immediately following in St. Joseph Cemetery. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the mass.
Contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in care of the funeral home.
