Luke John Kern, dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away surrounded by his family at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the age of 87.

Luke was born to Anthony and Norine (Lucius) Kern in New Riegel, May 29, 1935, and was one of six siblings.   Three days after he graduated from New Riegel High School, he started work at American Standard.  After three years there, he was hired at National Machinery and retired after 42 years. He then worked at ICP in Tiffin for eight years.

Luke married Rosemary Sherman and they later divorced.  They had four children; Linda, Tanya, Jayme and Tony.  Luke married Susan Crist and they had a son, Brian.  Luke and Sue celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Linda, Tanya, Jayme (Deb), Brian (Tami); six grandchildren, Greg, Chad (Courtney) Chris, Emma, Drew, and Colin; nine great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren; a brother, Carl and other extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Tony; two sisters, Mary Catherine Fox and Rita Kern; two brothers, Francis and Alvin Kern.

Luke enjoyed watching many sports, but especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sports events.  He stayed updated on all of the latest family, local, national and world events.  He traveled to almost all 50 states with his favorite trip with Sue being Alaska.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Please join the family for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life Mass will be at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church officiated by Rev. Matthew Rader. The rosary will be recited 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.  Burial will follow immediately at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Stein Hospice or to St. Mary Catholic Church.
