Lewis Q. Arnold, age 83 of Tiffin, died at 7:40 p.m., Tuesday May 17, 2011 at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.
Lewis was born May 24, 1927, to the late Earl and Emma (Gessner) Arnold in Fostoria, Ohio. He married LaDonna Rader October 25, 1947 in Covington, Ky.,she preceded him in death October 18, 2005.
Survivors include one son, Chris (Jane) Arnold of Tiffin; three daughters, Sandra (Greg) Scott of Bascom, LuAnn (Mark) Tooley, and Lori (Mark) Grine, both of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren, Janell Scott, Jodi (Dave) Barnett, Alicia (Steve) Lehman, Aaron (Erica) Scott, Jaclyn (Matt) Schalk, Adam (Heather) Arnold, Nicole Tooley, Tiffany (Chris) Boehler, Austin Arnold, Jason Tooley, Kelsey Grine (Derek Ellis), Kaleb Grine; two step-grandchildren, Erin (Tony) Patrizi, Andy (Jocelyn) Hiser; five great-grandchildren, Caiden Scott, Jack Schalk, Levi Stahl, Owen and Aden Patrizi; brothers and sisters Vincent (Eleanor) Arnold, of Tiffin, Helen Gilliland, Bernard Arnold, Gerald Arnold, Joyce Waldron, Brenda Bullock, Brian Arnold, and LaDonna Smalley.
Lewis was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Lewis attended Hopewell Loudon School. He then served in the United States Army as a drill Sergeant of Basic Training following World War II. Lewis retired as a supervisor in 1990 from the National Machinery Company after working there for 38 years. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, serving as an usher, trustee, and a member of the Finance Committee. Lewis was also a member of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club and the American Legion.
Lewie was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Everyone who knew him loved him. He was a master gardener and took great pride in his lawn. Lewie was a handyman who could fix anything. He and LaDonna loved to travel, especially to Myrtle Beach. He is remembered for being able to ride his bicycle backwards.
Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 pm, Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113. The Quarter Century Club will meet at 7 pm, Sunday at the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 11 am, Monday, May 23, 2011 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donna Van Trees officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will follow in Rock Creek Cemetery with military rites performed by the United Veterans Council.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.
