Lena A. Reno, 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 26th 2006. For the past ten years, she had been a resident of the Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria, Ohio.
Lena was born on July 3, 1914, in Erie County, PA, to Rebecca and Nathaniel Allen. She attended Wattsburg schools and graduated from Union City High School. In 1932, she graduated from Edinboro Normal School. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in 1957 and a Master’s degree in 1959 both at Edinboro State Teacher’s College. Her first teaching position was a one room school at Arbuckle. Later, she taught in Washington Township and the McKean and Millcreek school systems before moving from the area in 1961. She retired from the Scottsdale, Arizona, public school system after 43 years in education. She also was an Adjunct Professor at Scottsdale Community College and Southwestern Baptist Bible College.
On July 27, 1933, she married David P. Reno of Edinboro, PA. They had 43 happy years together before he passed away on November 21, 1976. While they lived in the Erie area, they were active members of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Lena taught Sunday school and Bible Club for many years. She enjoyed cooking, woodworking, crocheting and traveling.
She is survived by five children: Martin A. (Carol) of Findlay, OH; Charles J. (Sally) of Euclid, OH; Joyce (Howard) Botterill of Kiev, Ukraine; JoAnn Kovalik of Winfield, IL and David E. (Joy) of Maple Grove, MN. There are also 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, 4216 Sterrettania Road, Erie, PA, with Pastor David Chapman of Nottingham Baptist Church, Willoughby Hills, OH, officiating. Interment in Dunn Valley Cemetery will follow. Visitation will be prior to the funeral beginning at 10:00 AM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Care Unit at the Good Shepherd Home, 725 Columbus Avenue, Fostoria, OH, 44830.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Traunero Funeral Home, Tiffin.
